The Plague

At the beginning of this month I contracted the plague. Seriously.

One Friday I woke up really congested. Sunday night some weird stuff started coming out of my eye. I knew it wasn't natural, but couldn't place it. My left ear started to hurt. And of course I was still congested. I called Clarissa, one of the morning teachers, to see if she could cover for me the next day if I needed to stay home. She said she could, but the thought of missing work still made me feel bad.

I woke up in the middle of the night, stumbled to the bathroom, and it dawned on me, "Oh, I have pink eye." In both eyes. Really bad. And a terrible ear infection. (It was probably 2 in the morning and we Lysol-ed the entire apartment right then. I'm paranoid. And we can't afford for Joshua to get sick this semester!)

No work for Shavonne. Or sleep. I couldn't fall back to sleep after waking up again around 5. When I called in sick for work, Rose told me I sounded terrible. Encouraging right? It took the doctor about 2 seconds of looking at me to say, "Your eyes are really red. You definitely have pink eye." Ya think? Because that and all the gunk coming out of my eyes hadn't tipped me off to that. Sometimes I wish we didn't have to pay doctors so much money just to tell us what we already know. Then he looked in my ear for 2 seconds to confirm that I had a really nasty ear infection. At least I left the doctor's with two prescriptions and orders to also take Ibuprofen.

I spent a couple days curled up in bed resting and watching movies. And thankfully Joshua takes good care of me. :) He even bought me a stuffed baby Eeyore! (Partly because I'm sick and partly because it was near Valentine's Day and all the flowers they're selling are roses - not the other kinds I would ordinarily prefer. Either way it made me really happy.)

However, when I'm sick and Joshua's incredibly busy with school we apparently don't take care of our apartment:

That part's a little embarrassing, but also kind of funny to me for some reason. And I probably shouldn't point this out, but that's only one kitchen counter. And it also doesn't account for all of the plastic cups and paper plates we've been using. Oh well.

Though I made it back to work after only a couple days, I'm still totally drained after work. And totally sick. (Pink eye wants to be my new best friend.) Our apartment is a lost cause for now and that's alright. I have the plague. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!
