Harry Potter

So I just spent about 3 months reading all of the Harry Potter books.

Back in the day I'd read the first 3 1/2 (not sure how I stopped in the middle of the fourth one!) and enjoyed them, but obviously didn't care enough to keep reading them. I've always figured I would love them if I read them.

Joshua loves the Harry Potter books. They were what got him to really start reading and realize that reading is awesome! I hadn't really seen the movies before and since getting married we'd watched a couple. During the fifth movie we seriously had to pause it every five minutes for Joshua to explain to me what was going on. I didn't enjoy it very much. I wanted all of the background and more details! So I was delighted when Joshua's mom sent us his set of the books.

I loved them!
Rowling is so clever. I love all the little details, and she does such a good job of wrapping up all of the different story lines and connecting it all. I think she's brilliant!

Joshua had been dying to see the seventh movie, but we wanted to wait until I'd read the book. Let's just say you really can't compare the books to the movies. If you do, you will be severely disappointed. I promise. That's something I've always had a problem with. I love reading so much and books are always a million times better than the movies. The movie was pretty good. I think it could definitely be improved though. They spend so much time making silly little things really dramatic, and then they don't spend time developing things that would benefit your understanding of the story line. I feel bad for people who watch the movies and haven't read the books. I don't understand how they enjoy them. They don't make nearly as much sense without already knowing what's going on. Oh well. Obviously people like them and I'm just a crazy book lover.

Now we're going to watch all of the movies in order! We already watched the first two. They make me kind of mad sometimes. I understand having to change things to turn into a cohesive movie. But really...they add some absurdly pointless things and leave out what I think are important details. I need to get over that before we finish all of the movies. Books and movies are always different. Books and movies are always different. They cannot be compared. I'll keep telling myself that. (But I'll also keep telling myself that books are infinitely better!)
